Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, this role has responsibility for ensuring the safe working environment for the manufacturing team operating multiple production lines.

Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off
2 days / 2 nights 6am-6pm / 6pm-6am

Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, this role has responsibility for ensuring the safe working environment for the manufacturing team operating multiple production lines. You will be accountable for delivering an improved bakery performance and all operational KPI's e.g. line performance, labour, safety, people, quality, cost and service. The Shift Manager has lead responsibility for the manufacturing site at weekends and overnight shifts and will co-ordinate all communications and the management of any exceptional circumstances and instances and incidents, during these times.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Health&Safety - proactively manage to ensure that a safe working environment exists for all associates in the bakery and that as a minimum, the operation meets the standards set out in the company Health and Safety policy. You will be an active member of the site H&S committee.
  2. Actively involved in the delivery of the site's annual H&S and sustainability plan, promoting new ideas and contributing to the audit and review process.
  3. Quality Standards - to lead and drive standards of quality, food safety, hygiene and housekeeping within the bakery through good manufacturing practice (GMP) to ensure that both the business and customer standards are kept and audit requirements are fully met.
  4. Performance management - to appropriately manage the performance of all team members using GB Talent performance systems (i.e. appraisals) and, if necessary, to impose disciplinary sanctions in accordance with Company policy through to dismissal stage.
  5. Training and development - to own the training and development of all levels of the team. Actively coach, develop, recruit and train team members to the required level of competence to encourage continuous improvement within the business and aid succession planning.
  6. NPD process - in partnership with the NPD Team, manage the NPD process within the bakery to ensure that all trials run successfully and through to product launch.
  7. Performance improvement through use of KPIs - challenges KPIs to drive performance. Familiar with Lean methodologies, promoting the use of simple Root Cause Analysis and improvement techniques within the shift team. Responsible for the accuracy and communication of all shift performance metrics. Ensure team delivers agreed KPIs across your area ensuring systems are in place to collect the necessary data to measure performance through oracle against the agreed KPIs. Develops and implements PIPs and identifies areas for improvement.
  8. Resource management - planning, organising and measurement of labour and material requirements within the bakery to ensure that both short and long-term targets are met.
  9. Responsible for managing the Process areas of the site from ingredient delivery and weighing through to mixing and baking.
  10. Communication - manages the communication process in the bakery to ensure that the Associates in their area are well informed on relevant business news and to encourage effective cross functional links and channels of communication are clear and available.
  11. Recruitment - lead the selection process for direct reports and all Associates within their area to ensure the necessary skills are in place at all levels. Responsible for the supervision and coaching of their team.
  12. Associate relations - support and encourage the GB values and a positive culture within their area, whilst fostering good employee relations through fair, consistent and effective people management. Supports an effective Employee Forum representation structure on their shift ('Shift Associate Engagement Forum').

To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience of working in an FMCG environment with previous bakery experience an advantage. You will have a proven track record of delivering change and meeting and exceeding operational KPI's. You will be an inspirational leader with a clear understanding of situational leadership who is successfully able to coach and develop teams. Good PC and System utilisation skills are essential.

General Bakery Associate Location: Welwyn
Applicants must be dependable, quality driven, conscientious and passionate. You must be able to work as part of a team, on your own initiative and be able to follow the processes and procedures in place.

This is a full time position working 8 hours Monday to Friday Day shift positions available. This will be rotational shift pattern, Week 1 6am till 2pm and week 2 2pm till 10pm

Previous experience within a Bakery environment would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be given to successful applicants. There is also an opportunity for individuals to develop and up skill into various senior positions at site.

Shift Administration Support Location: Maidstone
Candidate to provide effective and efficient administrative support to the operations team. Assist in the control and help continuously improve all aspects of plant performance including health and safety, food safety and quality and to provide support in the coaching & training of associates.

    Ensuring adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices:

    • Ensuring that all work is done safely, and areas are clean and tidy at all times in line with "Clean as you Go Policy" while following job specific tasks and roles as set out in SOP's and work instructions. This includes the cleaning of the warehouse, chiller and the yard.

    General Bakery Associate Location: Rotherham
    Reporting to the Area Line Leader, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with the production and packing of quality GBUK products in line with customer and company requirements.
    • Adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices
      • Ensure that all work is done safely, and the Associate applies the principles of “Clean as you Go” not only the area they are working but also in ancillary areas like the Changing Rooms, Canteen etc.

      • Flexible and willing to train across multiple areas and equipment throughout the factory, as and when required.
    • Housekeeping
      • Responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the factory.
    • Quality
      • To ensure that all Bagels conform to customer requirements and any irregularities are reported to Area Line Leader.
    • Teamwork
      • Working closely with other members of the team and other departments to ensure reports and handovers are effective

    Working full time 4 on 4 off 2 x 12 hour day shifts 06:00 -18:00 followed by 2 x 12 hour night shifts 18:00 - 06:00 then 4 days off - Because of shift work you must be aged 18+

    £1 extra for all hours worked between 18:00 - 06:00 x 1.25 for all hours worked above contracted hours
